Mission, Vision, & Reports

We have spent the last 50 years serving our community.

ACSA is a leading and learning organization that is constantly adapting to the changing needs of our community. We are committed to advancing our knowledge and expertise, and to sharing our learnings with other organizations working in the social services sector.

In response to the fast-changing community of Agincourt in the 1970’s, eight local faith groups came together to build on the work that Holy Spirit Catholic Church had been doing to assist local residents who were in need. Reverend Bruce Scott from Knox United Church devoted much of his time in launching the Agincourt Community Services Association (ACSA).

ACSA opened its doors for the first time in a little white church on the corner of Birchmount and Sheppard. The fledgling agency started by offering supports such as information, referrals, and emergency food and clothing. We also were providing a space called “The Family Life Centre” where professionals could provide supportive counseling to people in the Agincourt area. Since then, we have grown exponentially

For half a century, ACSA has relied on an unwavering team of volunteers to support a diverse range of programs. While the fundamental values remain unchanged, ACSA has adapted its strategies to empower individuals to become self-reliant through "hand up" programs instead of solely providing temporary relief via "hand out" programs. We have remained nimble and have been continuously evolving our programs to address the ever-changing needs of the community.

Currently, ACSA tackles a wide range of challenges including the effects of systemic poverty: hunger, precarious housing, homelessness, unemployment, inaccessibility, and social isolation. Despite the expansion of services, ACSA remains committed to bridging the gap between those who require assistance and those who can offer it.

ACSA represents a sincere effort to address the needs of the community. It involves the community coming together to work collaboratively towards a shared goal and is a concrete manifestation of people helping people
— Rev. Bruce Scott, 1970

Right from the first time that I came to ACSA, I felt that they were accommodating and that they were able to guide me through my questions. There are a lot of people that need support, but they do not know where to seek it. If women, especially immigrant women, realized that there are organizations like ACSA - that can help save them from danger - they can start a new beginning.

Our Strategic Priorities

Flourish

Our goal is to create an environment that allows every individual and family we serve to flourish. We strive to provide the necessary resources and support to enable people to overcome socioeconomic challenges, build resilience, and enhance their quality of life. We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential, and we are committed to helping them achieve that.

Improving/Enhancing One's Community

We are dedicated to building strong, inclusive communities where everyone can thrive. This means not just addressing immediate needs, but also investing in long-term solutions that tackle systemic issues contributing to poverty and inequality. We aim to improve access to essential services, stimulate economic growth, and create spaces that foster social cohesion and mutual support.

Increasing Connections

We believe in the power of community and the value of connectivity. We aim to increase social connections among individuals, families, and organizations within the communities we serve. By strengthening these connections, we can create a network of support that enhances resilience, fosters social integration, and builds community cohesion.

Developing Leadership Skills

We are committed to developing the leadership potential within our communities. Through our various programs, we aim to equip individuals with the necessary skills and confidence to take on leadership roles, drive positive change, and become role models within their communities. We strive to empower individuals to be agents of change in their own lives and the lives of others.

Increasing Civic Participation

We aim to strengthen democratic participation and civic engagement in our communities. We believe that everyone should have a voice in decisions that affect them and their community. Through our advocacy work and community initiatives, we aim to encourage individuals to participate in civic activities, contribute to policy discussions, and play an active role in shaping their communities.

Establishing Meaningful Connections and Contributions to Society

We strive to foster a sense of belonging and significance among the individuals and families we serve. We aim to create opportunities for individuals to make meaningful contributions to their communities and society at large. By doing so, we can help individuals build a sense of self-worth, enhance social integration, and promote a more inclusive and equitable society.
